One giant leap for peoplekind! Trudeau tiptoes in his solar system socks to avoid offending Trump

Clad in his trademark wacky socks, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has taken pains not to insult President Donald Trump, despite prodding from Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod.

It came just days after Trudeau made global headlines for insisting on feminist grounds that 'mankind' be replaced by 'peoplekind' - a remark he claims was in jest.

Axelrod, now the director of the Institute of Politics, hosted Trudeau for a colloquy at the University of Chicago on Wednesday, prodding the Canadian leader to admit that Trump was 'the elephant in the room'.

'There are lots of things on which we can find common ground,' Trudeau said diplomatically of Trump, according to the Chicago Tribune.

'He got elected on a promise to make America work for people who'd been let down, which is not entirely dissimilar from the pledge I made to try to help the middle class in Canada,' Trudeau said.

'Broadly,' Axelrod responded. Trudeau smiled and added, 'Well, yes, there's differences in how we said we'd do it.'

Axelrod asked him why Canadian approval of the US government had fallen from 60 percent to 20 percent over the last year.

'I'm not going to wonder about things!' Trudeau responded to laughter.
